My 10 Favourite process photos

Week 10; Lumion Render of The Studio: Using the ideas from past physical and digital models, I've created a digital environment that reflects my experimentation with context, form, and light.

The Lighthouse.

The Studio: Detail Model.

The Studio: Site Model.

Week 7; Photography and Handcrafting Models: I immensely enjoyed the modelmaking component of this project. I explored how different materials might be used to represent unique spaces, like how the stick trees in the site model represent a barren landscape. I also played with the photography component of the task, using different angles and camera placements to create informative perspectives.

The Expanding Room.

Week 5; Paper folding exercise: I had fun experimenting with different ways I could use folding techniques to represent space. My favourite model was that of an expanding room, which used the v-fold technique.

Assessment 3 Summary

Project Brief: Representing Space

My project uses handcrafted models and digital media to represent differing aspects of different spaces. When utilised together, physical and digital mediums have the potential to create a portrayal of a built environment in its entirety. For example, By utilising a hand-crafted model, we can observe how sunlight affects our built space, and therefore informs the form and overall function of the environment. However, a digital replica of the lighting model can provide opportunities to place the built space within a clearly defined context. When these two models are used in conjunction, they create a highly detailed expression of the represented space, and therefore solidifies the need for both digital and physical models as communicative tools.

The 5 Handcrafted Models

Physical Site Model: The Studio

Front View

This perspective accentuates the curvature of the site, and informs how the studio places itself in its context.

I've decided to "stick" with these model trees to highlight the barren nature of the landscape.

3D Fusion 360 Model: My Initials (BKJ)

The use of wood-related materials represents my fondness of hand-made models and the process of physical crafting. the tones of the cherry, oak, and pine have been tweaked to create a collective sense of warmth and comfort, which reflect my mentality when crafting with wooden materials.

The more prominent use of granite in this model communicates an inconsistency to my lifestyle. The use of a darker granite represents my disdain for irregularity, and the lighter granite reflects a desire to regain a sense of structure within life.

The use of metallic materials demonstrates my adoration for superficiality. I've increased the shine of the exterior, and tinged the metal to an aqua colour to reflect my visual interests. The dull silver beneath the exterior of the model reflects the quieter nature of my personality,
